What is Quadrille Dancing?
Quadrille is a dance that was fashionable in late 18th and 19th-century Europe. It has since been adopted and adapted with a Caribbean twist by several Caribbean islands, including Saint Lucia, Dominica, Guadeloupe, and Jamaica.
Who are the Lucianites?
Since the early 1990s, the Lucianites have been an active and committed group, working to keep Saint Lucia’s culture of Quadrille dancing alive!
The group has performed at numerous events, including birthday parties, community cultural events, and festivals. They have also showcased the dance for various organisations, such as Goldsmiths University, The Commonwealth, Destinations Fairs, Kenneth Moore Youth Club, South Bank, Black History Month, the Colchester Windrush event, and the Beyond Iyanola Cultural Showcase at the Lighthouse. These events have taken place both in the UK and internationally, including in Holland to celebrate Emancipation Day and in Germany, on several occasions, to celebrate our French heritage (Jounen Kweyòl).
